Your Relationship Rules

Yesterday we were talking about “What Makes Great Relationships Last,” and we mentioned the need for trust and respect one another and agreeing on the rules of your relationship.

But what are these rules? What are your rights and responsibilities in a relationship?

Rights

Responsibilities

I have the right to be heard.
I have the right to be respected.
I have the right to enjoy a sexual relationship with my partner
I have the right to refuse to have sex.
I have the right to feel safe in a relationship.

Talk about it

Add to the list of rights and responsibilities that we have in relationships in the comments section of this post. For every right that you list, add an accompanying responsibility.

When setting out the rules to build a strong relationship with your partner, remember that having multiple concurrent partners increases your risk of getting HIV. So make sure that your protection against HIV is part of your discussion and the rules you set out.
