Should You Stop Using Condoms Once Your Relationship Is Stable?

negotiating-for-condom-useMany couples stop using condoms once they have built trust and decide that their relationship is stable. And while trusting each other may be what our instncts tell us, and is emotionally satisfying, there are inherent risks in the move.

For example, if one of the partners in this relationship is already committed in another relationship (maybe even married). this means that the partners are part of a sexual network.

As we have mentioned many times on this site, research has shown that having multiple concurrent partners and being part of a sexual network makes it easy to get HIV.

Below is a poll which asks for your view on whether you believe  couples should stop/continue using condoms  once they decide that their relationship is stable. We are not defining what stability is, as the concept may differ from couple to couple, and from various communities served by the OneLove campaign.

However, examples of stable relationships are:

  1. Marriage
  2. Polygamous marriage
  3. Small house arrangement ( where there is is no marriage but the two people are a couple, and may even have children together)
  4. Where one partner is married, but sees a secondary partner on a regular basis
  5. Where partners have regular sexual encounters, though they may not have discussed the future of their relationship in detail.

We would also like to ask you to share more details about what you think on the issue by leaving comments at the end of this post.
