Part 3-17 Reasons People in Southern Africa Have Multiple Concurrent Partners

money-2This is the last post in a series that seeks to provide some answers as to why some people have multiple concurrent partners. You can read the previous entries in the series here and here.

My name is Thami and I have multiple sexual partners because:

14. My wife is barren – I wanted children and my wife wasn’t getting pregnant so I chatted to my friends and they suggested that I should sleep with someone else to get children.

15. My partner and I have long separatis due to our work - I spend most of my month away from my wife – I only see her at month end for a couple of days – what else am I supposed to do?

16. I’m afraid of abandonment - Its better to have lots of partners so if one dumps you, then you have others to fall back on. It would be embarrassing to be left alone.

17. Greed and control – I can afford to have multiple sexual partners because I have enough money to keep them all happy. I can even get needy people to have sex with me because they need my money.

Talk about it

Do you think that there are reasons which may justify having multiple concurrent partners? Or do you believe, like one of our readers Lynn, that if you are unhappy/unfilled in a relationship, and you’ve tried talking to your partner, family intervention, counselling and failed, you should break up and move on?
