OneLove Answers Some Frequently Asked Questions

condomsThe following questions are frequently asked when we discuss multiple concurrent partners and how we can protect ourselves from HIV.

This is OneLove’s position on the issues:

I am already in a relationship and we don’t use condoms. What do I do?

  • It’s never too late! The first thing you need to do is get courage to talk to your partner about HIV.
  • Show your partner this book, and ask him or her to read it with you.
  • Read all about HIV on pages 4 and 5 together of You and your relationship.
  • Suggest that you get tested for HIV together and that you start using condoms.

But I am already married to more than one wife?

  • This is a common practice in our communities, but it is never too late to take action.
  • You can talk to your wives or husband and go together for HIV testing.
  • Think about your risks and make a commitment to stay faithful to one another.
  • Condoms are a good way of protecting yourselves from HIV infection.
  • Be a role model and teach younger men and younger women to choose one sexual partner – it’s the right choice!

I trust my partner and want to stop using condoms.

  • If you do, have an HIV test and only one partner.
  • It is always better to use condoms every time you have sex, even if you trust your partner.
  • Condoms are available at many stores and at clinics.
  • Use one condom for one time only. Do not use two at a time.

Remember

A safer relationship means:

1. No secrets and lies
2. Communicating effectively

4. Respect and equal rights for and between men and women
5. Societies must support and encourage safe relationships.
