There are more people in sub-Saharan Africa with HIV than anywhere else in the world and young women and girls are the hardest hit.
The GIRLS AT RISK DVD is made up of a 12-minute video is made up of five films in the UNTOLD film series. The resource uses the power of storytelling to highlight the risks of ordinary young women and girls in a world of HIV and AIDS.
The short stories in this DVD are:
1. Secrets and Lies -A story of a young couple whose marriage is in trouble, as both partners are having affairs.
2. Between Friends – This is the story of two women friends who go into business together. One of the women entered into a transactional relationship without realising it.
3. Chipo’s Promise – Chipo is a 13-year old girl whose parents have died. Chipo promised her mother that she would take care of her siblings. This story highlights the impact of HIV on children. In terms of multiple concurrent partnerships, the story reminds us that our children are the ones who have to suffer long after we have died.
4. A Tempestade - This is a story of the impact of violence in a relationship. It also shows that families and the community can do something to discourage men who abuse their partners. In terms of multiple concurrent partnerships, this story reminds us that some women are in abusive relationships and are not able to ask their partners to use condoms.
5. Batjele (Tell Them) – This story is about a student who accepts help from her teacher. However, the teacher abuses her trust and forces her into a sexual relationship. The full length films from which this tool is adapted were written and produced by local writers and film makers from nine southern African countries.

according to my encounters with my peers or the people i interact with overall,i’ve seen that people do all sorts of things for money. im not against intimate relationships but it gets crooked when it comes to people having sex with whoever just to get the finances they want. not that i’m ok with peole especiall the youth exchanging their assets for money’s sake risking chances of HIV &other sexually transmitted infections;not only are they degrading our name as women,a country as humans. this behaviour is so unbecoming & seems to be so prominent amongst black african sisters. im 20 not yet involved in a relationship or rather have no lover but once i get involved i think i’ll do the necessary:continue to abstain from sex ensure trust between my partner &i, once we decide we are ready to engage in intercourse then go for hiv tests at regular intervals &condomise always. sisters need to know sugar daddies have done&seen it all so they’re just around waiting for a dazed young girl to mess up her future.should also remember you dont have to have sex for payment it’s just a mutual agreement whicw’s consentual too. Thanks for the gr8 initiative
am proud of your fighting against HIV/AIDS infection and youth sexual relationship,am at mbeya regional in Tanzania i would like to request you to expand your services at schools ,colleges and university of which the risk of this individuals to acquire HIV infection is high here at mbeya theres a number of secondary school students who lives with AIDS viruses after being tested and do not want to be open to their fellow students and still engage in sexual intercourse even after being councelled by health worker,am working at mbeya refferal hospital as intern nurse holding a bachelor of science in nursing, all the best
to fight against HIV/AIDS infection people have to know that binding effectively on religious rules its the only tools that can help us on fighting against this enemy, the enemy seems to be strong and very resistant to any human effort to destroy it,we created drugs to lower its multiplication but we ended up creating new srtains of it of which are very dangerous than the first,we emphasized on the use of condoms but the consistency and proper use of the condom can only reduce transmission however prevention is not absolutely,to my opinion only GOD can save us from this enemy as he is the creator of everything in this universe therefore binding on his rule is the best solution to us.
Hi Hassan
Femina HP is the OneLove partner in Tanzania, and they work with young people in communities/schools etc. I’m sure you’ve seen teh Fema TV talk show? It is part of the OneLove campaign. And as you know, they do host some of the discussions in rural communities, rather than in the studio.
i am John Mutambayi reside in South Africa Cape Town,
i m little opinion is for every body to make a perfect choice about one’s life, if you decide today that i will mess up the rest of my life today it should be a choice which is more irealistic and little more stupide for a human being, if every one could just wait until their are married none of wouldn’t have happened. People do think wrongly by saying the only way of sshowing their love is to sleep with them; But one consequance is certain is when you got the worest news about the relationship that start crying and blame each other but we forget to make the best decision ever. condomise is also risky but if you abstain then you are the winner of the game. it doesn’t mean if we have sex then we are happy yes but what happen after few days when the perfect happiness dispaires?
let’s just wait for the perfect moment then we won’t have HIV issues around our neck.
