Meet Joe is a booklet and public service announcement (PSA) package which tackles the issue of sexual networks in a new and fresh way.
It forms part of the regional OneLove campaign’s cross border HIV prevention campaign in Southern Africa, and looks at the issue of multiple concurrent partnerships in the region.
“Meet Joe highlights sexual networks and how having more than one sexual partner at the same time puts one at risk of HIV and AIDS,” says Harriet Perlman, head of Soul City’s regional programmes.
She notes that the concept behind the 24 page, easy-to-read comic and the PSA is to represent people without showing identities or specific racial or cultural groups.
The public service announcement uses a technique never seen before in this region which converts live footage into animation.
Directed by Donovan Marsh, one of South Africa’s top features and commercial directors.
Meet Joe crosses borders and boundaries and presents an HIV message which challenges people to think about their behaviour in a format which is inspiring and interesting.
Meet Joe was developed by the OneLove campaign, in partnership with IOM and Trucking Wellness. The booklet is being distributed through 14 wellness centre which were set up to service truckers and mobile populations. The booklet will also be distributed through SAFAIDS.
